Alfrey Cubs Camp: March 14-16

March 17, 2025

Our Cubs went to Alfrey Activity Centre this past weekend for the first Cubs Camp we've held since 2022 and the kids sure enjoyed it! Once the Cubs had their kit put away in their rooms and set up their bunk, there was time for hot dogs and hanging out together before bed.

A dozen Cubs are grouped together for a photo on their first Cub Camp! Cheeky kids a-plenty!

Saturday morning after breakfast, the Cubs spread along the fence line to watch the deer herd on the golf course. Afterwards they had some free time for suction archery, foam axe throwing, and enjoying the tire swings and one Cub even found a stray golf ball! The Cubs made their own sandwiches for lunch, then had a go using Braille slates as part of their Disability Awareness badge.

The Cubs are climbing on the fence to get a good look at the deer herd on the golf course. I wonder what the deer think of that? This Cub is tossing his foam axe at the target.Three Cubs are on the tyre swing as it whirls around.Four Cubs are on swings, three of which are tyre swings and they're all sat differently on them. Looks like they're having a great time! The Cubs have taken a break for lunchtime and are munching away on their sandwiches, crisps and fruit. The Cubs are devouring the lunches they made for themselves. These Cubs are helping each other become familiar with the Braille alphabet and how to use a Braille writer. This Cub has marked out the letters he needs to use on the corner of his page, and now he's using the Braille writer to punch the letters onto his sheet of paper.

The afternoon's activities were the Cresta Run and an assault course. There was some serious concentration and excitement on the faces of the Cubs as they sped down the run on their carts and scrambled over the assault course.

There is a strong determination on the faces of two of these Cubs as they race ahead of the third Cub down the Cresta Run.Cubs are racing down the Cresta Run on their tracked sledges, grins on their faces.Excitement is on the face of these Cubs going down the Cresta Run.The first Cub in the queue has just started making her way through the tyres as she begins the obstacle course. There are several Cubs queued behind her, peeking around to watch her progress. Two Cubs are making their way over the rope net portion of the obstacle course.Three Cubs are clambering over the A-frame portion of the obstacle course.

As the afternoon light faded, the Cubs built little fires and toasted marshmallows over them, followed by making their own pizzas for supper. After such a full day, by the time they finished making their flip books, they were ready for a good night's sleep.

Three Cub girls have built a mini log cabin fire and are toasting their marshmallows over it.Three Cubs are grouped together, building a small fire to toast marshmallows over.

Sunday morning there was archery and wide games before it was time for the parents to come collect their Cubs. The Cubs had a fantastic time on their camp and can't wait for the next one!
